What Recovery Has Taught Us About Community

Another month has come to an end, and this August we’d like to pause to recognize that none of this happens alone. The hard days, the small wins, the steady work of recovery – our community showed proof of it all month long.

Healing is Never Meant to Be Solitary

Recovery is a very personal journey in a lot of ways. But those who’ve traveled the long road tend to recognize over and over again that they didn’t do it by themselves. Many recovering persons did it surrounded by those who understood, showed up, and didn’t disappear if things got messy.

Exactly what this community has been all month long. Not bystanders, but an active part in how people stick to recovery.

The Community Lesson Worth Carrying Forward

Connection and community is all part of the mechanics of recovery. Those who ask for help, others who answer any questions, and people who sit in a meeting when they’re uncomfortable simply because someone needs someone – that’s some of the most important work.

There is no metaphor in healing together. It’s the real process, in real time, in our community, because it’s necessary.

Moving Into Next Month

You don’t have to carry the weight of the world on your own. We aren’t going anywhere, and neither is our reminder that to show up for each other is how to make recovery stick.

Thanks to those who came out to spend time with us at all the events. We had a great time.

NIH-backed studies have repeatedly shown that stronger social support networks lead to longer recovery retention and better outcomes. If you’re looking for connection in person, our Recovery Community Centers are open and peer-run. Make sure to check the community calendar to keep up with what’s next.

Got a story about how community showed up for you? Share it with us because it might be exactly what keeps someone putting one foot in front of the other.
