Wisconsin Fall Adventures Worth Trying

Thrilling Thursday. Fall in Wisconsin is way too short, but it’s also way too good to spend indoors. For this week, we prefer a list rather than one spotlight to fit in as much as we can before the truly frigid air hits.

Fall Apple Picking

Bring a bag, climb that ladder, and leave with as many apples as you can carry. Orchards across the state are opening up for that fantastic fall picking, and it’s just the kind of chill adventure that gets you outside and moving.

Corn Mazes and Pumpkin Patches

Wisconsin has no shortage of farms where the fall is filled with mazes to run, hayrides, and pumpkin patches from now through October. You can plan a whole afternoon. And heck, bring your friends and family for group fun.

Fall Leaf-Peeping Drives or Hiking

One of the best free shows in Wisconsin are the changing leaves in the fall. People come from miles and miles to Door County, the Kettle Moraine trails, or a drive along the Great River road to see all the colors on display. Add a hike if you can to see the real beauty up close.

Ghost Tours and Fall Haunted Walks

Quite a few cities run seasonal haunted history and ghost tours in October. The atmosphere and cooler evenings are a great option for a different kind of thrill.

A Trip to a Cranberry Marsh

Did you know: Wisconsin grows more than half of the world’s cranberry supply. And in parts of the state, tours are open to the public. Lake Nokomis Cranberries in Eagle River offers free guided tours, and Manitowish Waters runs marsh tours every Friday through early October. Might just be the little something different you need for an afternoon.

Bonfire and Bourbon-Free Cider Night

A great way to end any of these adventures is with a bonfire and warm apple cider. It’s sober-friendly, and a great low-cost way to end a beautiful cool fall day.

Why This Belongs in Recovery

Cooler weather doesn’t mean all your adventures need to stop, you’re just trading in the swimsuit for a nice snug flannel. And you can build it all with your sobriety as top priority. Fall adventures give you movement, fresh air, and something to look forward to. Just like you did this past summer.

This Week’s Adventure Challenge

Pick a thrill from the list and put it on the calendar by the end of the week. Bring someone for extra thrill. Fall is short. Use it while it’s here.

Maybe looking for some company? Our Community Centers often plan group events, so check the calendar regularly for the most up-to-date information.

Got a story? Share it with us. If it’s an adventure we’re always looking for new ideas.
